OLD GROWTH-NEW GROWTH, a proposal for a branch library in Austin, addresses the relationship between contemporary and traditional ways of receiving, transferring, and producing information.
Old growth happens horizontally with physical holdings expanding and contracting outwards. New growth, the rapid proliferation of materials online, is unteathered from spacial requirements and the mediatheques and reprographics areas that support it are consolidated in a series of columns, generating vital juxtapositions between search results and physical materials, weaving between old branches of knowledge.
